What do you know about AnchorCert Protect?

AnchorCert Protect logo

AnchorCert Protect is a unique UKAS-accredited testing methodology that identifies and measures a suite of 16 metallic elements that may cause Allergic Contact Dermatitis (ACD) and provides regulatory compliance in relation to REACH, Nickel and General Product Safety Regulations for jewellery, watches and other products including spectacles, hair accessories and clothing trims.

A Singular Solution

The AnchorCert Protect test screens an item and can then determine which elements are most likely to cause a skin allergy and at what concentration within an article.

The manufacturing process can then be managed to ensure that the finished article is highly unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. This means that AnchorCert Protect compliant products are unlikely to trigger a reaction whether the individual has or has not already been sensitised to a metal allergen.

Compliance with the AnchorCert Protect testing methodology also provides compliance for articles in respect of the EU Nickel, Lead and Cadmium, RoHS REACH and GSPD directives as follows:

Nickel Release: EN1811:2011 + A1:2015 [entry 27 of Annexe XVII (REACH)]

  • GPSD: General Product Safety Regulation 2005 from a skin allergy point of view.

  • Lead Content: Entry 63 of annex 17 of REACH Directive (1907/2006).

  • Cadmium Content: Entry 23 of annex 17 of REACH Directive (1907/2006).

  • RoHS: RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC

This is all available in a single test meaning that no additional testing is required.

Ensuring Product Integrity

In an environment where product integrity has never been more important, AnchorCert Protect enables brands and retailers to offer their customers unrivalled reassurance that their products are highly unlikely to cause an allergic reaction, even if an individual has already experienced an allergy in the past.

It is estimated that around 20% of the population are thought to suffer from Allergic Contact Dermatitis. This is a significant number of people who are currently not necessarily buying certain products because of the potential for an allergic reaction. By using AnchorCert Protect to test products; brands and retailers can offer their consumers protection that goes over and above the statutory requirements to ensure their well-being is front of mind at all times. This is a huge step towards normalising the conversation around metal induced skin allergies.

In addition, using AnchorCert Protect to test products also helps to future-proof against changes in REACH including likely amendments to cover Cobalt
